How To Profit From Writing Ebooks by Matt Jackson

Informational products offer excellent advantages to readers. The convenience of being able to purchase an ebook and have it delivered immediately is a massive draw to Internet users. Ebooks have become so popular that there is a multitude of websites offering nothing more than page after page of ebook. And, if you visit Ebay and type in Ebook you will see exactly how popular they are. The fact is that just about any information on any topic can be found in ebook format.

Writing an ebook is a feasible way to make some money online. With people literally crying out for them it is little wonder that there are now many avenues to market your product. For anyone that can write and has either existing knowledge on a topic or the propensity to do some accurate research writing and selling ebooks is a genuine business model. The hardest part is sifting through the opportunities and finding the right channel or channels to market your ebook.

Ebay

This is probably the biggest ebook marketplace there is. At the time of writing this article a quick search on Ebay.com for the term "ebook" displays nearly 10,000 open auctions and a further 1,267 Ebay stores that specialize in electronic books. If you do the search yourself then you will notice that the majority on Ebay are based on online moneymaking topics and rarely sell for more than a few cents. This is partially because very few original titles are ever listed but also because so many people attempt to sell similar ebooks through the Ebay channel. Unless you have something unique, appealing, and offering true value for money it can be difficult to make a reasonable amount without having to sell thousands upon thousands of copies.

Ebook Stores

There exist, on the Internet, a large number of ebook stores. Some specialize in electronic copies of existing paper publications. These necessitate a publisher to contact the store in order to come to an agreement and are unlikely to be the type of thing you are looking for. On the other hand, sites like Lulu.com will publish your ebook and create a sales page that you can market. They also receive a good amount of traffic so you may make some sales from window shoppers.

Consider contacting other ebook stores to ask if they would be interested in selling your ebook. Niche topic stores are generally a good place to start and as long as you agree to sign over a portion of the sale value you shouldn't find it too difficult to find partners using this method.

Your Own Website

If you have an established website and your ebook covers a related topic then set up a new page and sell it directly through your own site. You get to retain all the profits this way but you also have to pay for any marketing, hosting, and other fees associated with your site.

Setting up a new website is a possibility but can be impractical. A website does not market itself and simply putting a page on the web offering your ebook for sale will not automatically result in sales. You will need to market your new site through one of several methods. PPC advertising can bring instant traffic to a site but it can prove costly. This cost must be more than offset by the profit you make. Another alternative is search engine optimization (SEO) but the major drawback of this method is that it can take considerable time before you start seeing results.

Find A JV Partner

A JV or Joint Venture partner enters into an agreement with you to sell your ebook in exchange for a commission per sale. You may have to pay a reasonable amount for every sale but you do not need to worry about marketing, accepting payments, or delivering the ebook. Find popular websites that operate in your niche, especially those that use email lists or newsletters and email them to ask if they would be willing to enter into a JV arrangement with you.

Join An Affiliate Network

If you have a website and wish to promote your ebook this way consider joining an affiliate network. Webmaster and marketing professionals will link to your site using a special URL. They will subsequently send visitors to your site, a percentage of whom will hopefully buy your book. The percentage offered to affiliates can range quite wildly but obviously the more you can offer the more people will attempt to sell your ebook. The benefit of this method of marketing your product is that it is performance based only. The only time you pay an affiliate is when a sale is made because of their efforts.

Clickbank

Clickbank is a form of affiliate network that specializes solely in electronic products such as ebooks. It operates in much the same way as an affiliate network. Webmasters publish a link to your sales page on their site and earn a commission whenever your product is sold because of that link. Clickbank is one of the most popular programs on the net because it attracts very effective marketers and offers a secure way to do business.

Sell Your Service

If you are able to research any topic and work to deadlines you might also consider offering your service to others as a freelance ebook writer. Selling ebooks isn't the only way that they can be used. Some sites give them away as promotional items or to attract people to join newsletters and mailing lists.

Ebooks For Cash

Selling ebooks can be a potentially profitable way to spend your time online. Finding a niche to corner is the best solution, especially to start with. Eventually you should be able to build up a name for yourself and subsequently gain a following. It can take hard work and serious perseverance to truly make it a success but in the long run it could be worth it.
