Finding A Hot Niche - Two Ways by Gary Harvey

Do you think you'd like to start an Internet business because of the exciting possibilities it offers for self-directed success? What product or service should you offer? How will you keep abreast of the competition?

You might already have a great product of your own in mind and you just want to test it to make sure it would sell. In that case, check out affiliate programs for similar products. If they're selling well, it's likely that yours will too.

Of course, finding a way to make yours especially attractive will help you beat the competition. You can, for example, offer free shipping or establish an informative newsletter that will build a loyal base of customers and fans to help spread word of mouth about you.

FOR EXAMPLE, HAM RADIOS

Let's say you have a passion for ham radios. You eat, breathe and sleep them.

Now, there are quite a few ham radio equipment sellers online, but what if you set up a mailing list and a monthly newsletter about the latest news in ham radios that visitors to your site could subscribe to for free?

And then, what if you also sold ham radio equipment and accessories at competitive prices?

Maybe even "Tell two friends about my newsletter here (provide a handy text box for them to type their e-mail addresses right in there on your site) and you get $3 off your order."

Bingo, two ham radio enthusiasts come to your site effortlessly, thus increasing word of mouth and potential customer base.

FINDING A HOT NICHE - TWO WAYS

If you're not sure what you want to sell, eBay and Amazon Marketplace offer two means to help determine current "hot niche" trends by going online and simply researching top sellers.

Once you find something you think you'd like to sell, your next steps are similar to what you would do if you want to test a product you're already passionate about, as described above.

* Check out affiliate programs of similar products to see if they're selling well.

* If at all possible, find a way to provide interesting content that relates to your product.

* Establish a mailing list and share your thoughts about your niche topic.

BENEFITS

Not only does this give you a ready customer base and growth through word of mouth as one of the channels, but it provides you a way to test new (related) products you may be considering.

It also helps you keep abreast of what customers like, want and need, keeping your finger on the pulse of the market so that you can make changes as trends require. After all, your subscribers should represent a good cross-section of the very market you serve.

The possibilities are endless!
