Loy Krathong Festival

One of the most popular festivals in early November is the Loy Krathong Festival. It takes place at a time when the weather is fine as the rainy season is over and there is a high water level all over the country.

“Loy” means “to float” and a “Krathong” is a lotus-shaped vessel made of banana leaves. The Krathong usually contains a candle, three joss-sticks, some flowers and coins.

In fact, the festival is of Brahmin origin in which people offer thanks to the Goddess of the water. Thus, by moonlight, people light the candles and joss-sticks, make a wish and launch their Krathongs on canals, rivers or even small ponds. It is believed that the Krathongs carry away sins and bad luck, and the wishes that have been made for the new year due to start. Indeed, it is the time to be joyful and happy as the sufferings are floated away.

The festival starts in the evening when there is a full moon in the sky. People of all walks of life carry their Krathongs to the nearby rivers. After lighting candles and joss-sticks and making a wish, they gently place the Krathongs on the water and let them drift away till they go out of sight.

A Beauty Queen Contest is an important part of the festival and for this occasion it is called “The Noppamas Queen Contest”. Noppamas is a legendary figure from the Sukhothai period. Old documents refer to her as the chief royal consort of a Sukhothai King named “Lithai”. Noppamas was said to have made the first decorated Krathong to float in the river on the occasion.

In Bangkok, major establishments such as leading hotels and amusement parks organise their Loy Krathong Festival and the Krathong contest as major annual function.

For visitors to Thailand, the Loy Krathong Festival is an occasion not to be missed. The festival is listed in the tourist calendar. Everyone is invited to take part and share the joy and happiness.

So I began scanning the magazines at the bookstore for money-making ideas. You know the ones - glossy, colorful, get rich quick bibles, every last one. They share something with the Bible actually; you can buy a copy of any of them 5 years later, and it's still all the same stuff! Then I just lucked into something on the computer. I found an article written by a stay-at-home Mom, who was in business for herself. She started an on-line computer business based on a practice called affiliate marketing. She said that she was making over $11,000.00 every month!! Of course I didn't believe a word of that, but I ordered her e-book anyway. After reading that book and putting her ideas and suggestions into practice, I experienced a life-changing dilemma: I was making more money on-line than I was at my 'real' job. The thing about affiliate programs that nobody really understands is the amount work that it takes. This is especially true for new people; well let's use me as an example. When I signed up for a say CJ or Linkshare network I signed up with every program known. Boy I was going to build the greatest shopping mall site known to man. But that didn't happen. I had about 50 links on each page to stores that had nothing to do with each other. And of course I had no traffic.

Getting traffic to a site is pretty hard in itself, first off, you have competition. If that isn't bad enough you also have to be at the mercy of the search engines. We all know that search engines don't like affiliate sites. Okay maybe that statement isn't true. What search engines don't like is websites that have no value at all to the end-user. So basically what happened with my site, the greatest shopping mall site of all times was that I was not able to gather enough traffic at all to generate sales. Heck, I couldn't even generate traffic! Even my family looked at the site and they didn't buy anything. That should have been a red flag.

The search engines hated me, and instead of saying what's wrong with my site. I said what's wrong with the search engines. Sadly enough, this is something that happens to new people. When they join affiliate programs, they think they going to be rich. The "You will build it and they will come" attitude doesn't happen online. It is funny that people still believe that this can happen today. I see people almost every day complaining that the search engines hate me. The search engines hate me. It is not the search engines that hate you, it is that your site is meaningless and has no value to a search engine. I know, no one is going to like that statement as everyone feels their site adds value.

It seems that everyone thinks they know what they're doing, but they really don't have a clue. The next thing you know, they're on chat rooms and forums and message boards with the Henny Penny attitude that the sky is falling. My favorite is when they say affiliate marketing is dead. Every time I hear that I say to myself here is another person that will fail eventually with affiliate marketing.

While people are posting and complaining and not doing anything to make their sites better, the super affiliates are working on their sites, and not paying any attention to stuff that is being said on message boards and forums. Sure, they check the message boards and forums. They probably go about this every three days every five days, though scan over real quick. See what the latest programs are and then go back to working on their sites. I don't mean to knock forums at all, but I seen the results on my own sites when I stopped going to forums. The Internet bares some awesome opportunities but even more barriers. It's funny how we receive emails almost every single day from some hypsters proclaiming the ultimate money making machine.

"Turn your visitors into CASH COWS!", "We send your email to 100 Million potential customers!" and similar flukes spam our mailboxes and then in our trash cans.

What makes the Internet so difficult is that due to the high level of competition among e-commerce sites, most sites do not sell their own products anymore, but they offer products from some affiliate program. There are some problems why the typical models do not work for most of us:

* Not enough customization * Small commissions * Less Loyalty, so that users return to the merchant and not to your site * No transparency of revenues

Typically, if you are not an SEO guru, you will have trouble getting enough visitors on to your site and you will end up spinning your wheels with the traffic you buy from search engines and other placements.

When you type "Free website building" in Google it comes up with 513 million results (at the time of this publication). That is just the words "free website building" not in quotes.

Wow! That tells me that there are many people who have information online for you to research, and for that many websites to have information on this subject that tells me there are defiantly people looking for free ways to build websites.

The number of sites that I visited offered free building tools, free web hosting, free 25 megs of web space, free this and free that. It occurred to me that if someone was on a limited budget and the only way they could put a site up would be to use one of these sites, I would have to say "Oh no".

It might be ok for someone wanting to put pictures online but for a business site, I would have to no way, do not do it.

I will give you two compelling reasons why not.

The first reason is that there are banner ads flashing around your site designed to take your customers away from your site, never to return. To top it off they don't even offer you an affiliate's income for sales originating from your website! I do not think that they intend to run ads that compete against your business, but it happens. I just think the banner ads have to make a certain number of impressions and if a competing ad happens to come up on your webspace, oh well it is nothing personal. They are offering you free website hosting and tools to build your site.

The second will knock your socks off. I will not mention the site you will just have to take my word for it. Last year I happened on a site that offered free hosting. They offered the same stuff that other free web hosting sites offer. I was at an internet marketing conference and I overheard someone talking about a website: It was a website that I had personally visited. What I heard I would never forget.

The site offers free web hosting but if your site does extremely well and visitors are spiking they have the right to your site, content, domain name, you name it they can claim it as their own because it falls into the realm of corporate ownership. Now you tell me, if you are making enough money at this point to purchase a domain name, web space and marketing tools then I recommend you do this before someone claims your ideas.

REMEMBER - You get what you pay for, so if your investment is free, then someone has to be flipping the bill. Right?

When looking for free website building where you do stop looking? Do you stop looking when you find a site that offers you less banner impressions then the next site? Do you stop looking when you find a site that offers you one gig of space and a complimentary baseball cap with their name on it? All they ask is you send the shipping and handling fee and it is yours?

These are just a couple of experiences that I have had online. My aim is not to discourage you from downloading and using free resources online. Are you trying earn a living online? Writing articles can be one of the best ways to promote your online business. Here are some quick tips for writing and submitting your own articles.

Tip#1: Article Length

When choosing an article for your website or distribution, make sure that its length is optimal for search engine optimization. Articles that are as short as 300 words or as long as 700 words should fit into this category. Even if search engine optimization is not your goal, it is still a good idea to keep your articles at this length for your reader's sake. They are not likely to finish your page if it is any longer. This could leave them with only half of the information you wanted them to have or leave them with the impression that your site is just plain too 'wordy'.

Most people online do not want to read a website page as they would a book, so the shorter the better - even if this means splitting one long idea into 4 or 5 pages. Be sure to label each section so that the reader can pick and choose which part they want to read or so they know what is coming up next.

Tip#2: Placing Affiliate Links

How your affiliate links are positioned on your article can really make a difference on how many potential clicks you end up getting. This is very important since every click could mean a potential sale.

Research has shown that the most effective affiliate links are text links - not big flashy banner ads like most affiliate websites are cluttered with. Your article and your link have to work effectively together to drive interested readers to your site. A bad article and an unrelated link to an unknown product are just going to confuse your potential customers and simply drive them away.

If at all possible be sure that the link text is the same as your own site - the search engines will be able to cross reference the link to the title properly.

Tip#3: Keyword Density

Keyword density and placement are important parts of optimizing your articles for search engines. Search engine spiders scan a page in a way that makes it important to place your keywords where they will be detected and recognized as a keyword, so that your article will come up when someone searches for that keyword.

A keyword is a word that is going to be placed in your article several times, not just once as that would make every word a keyword. When a spider sees that you have a word placed several times in an article, it will determine that your page may be useful to users that search for such a keyword.

Keyword density is how many times your keyword is placed in your article. Most use a percentage to determine how many times they will put a keyword in an article. For instance, if you have a 500 word article and want to achieve a keyword density of 5%, then you will need to have the keyword in your article exactly 25 times. You can find hundreds of resources and guides recommending one keyword density over another and the reasons behind the logic, however, in the end you will have to determine which density is more profitable for your articles.

No matter what exact density you choose, it is important to place keywords so that there are more at the beginning and end to produce an hour glass effect. Having the right keyword density in your article makes it more likely that you will make money off of that article because it will rise in the search engine results and be seen by more people.

How A Clickbank Affiliate Became a Clickbank Seller by Gary Nugent

Back in September 2006, I knew little or nothing about affiliate marketing of Clickbank products. Sure, I'd bought some products from Clickbank, but even though I've been making a fulltime living online for the last 3 years, I only ever saw Clickbank as a place to buy digital products, not as a potential revenue stream. Funny how you can miss the obvious, isn't it?

Anyway, that all changed when Affiliate Project X was launched in early October. This isn't my review of Affiliate Project X (if you want to read it, go here), but Affiliate Project X did open my eyes to different marketing methods and to the revenue potential that Clickbank offered.

One piece of advice given by Affiliate Project X is to create a bonus that's relevant to the product you're promoting. Yes, it's a bit of work. But it makes your particular offer unique. And if the bonuses you offer are good, that means more sales.

So off I went, looking for good products to market and then to build bonuses around. If you've ever tried to identify quality Clickbank products, you'll know how time consuming it is.

It was after a few weeks of trawling through Clickbank that the idea for a bonus, for products that promote Clickbank itself one way or another, came to mind.

This bonus would make it easier for people to find hot products to promote, saving them time and money (time is money after all!) I thought it would be a good bonus to give away with Affiliate Project X, to anyone who bought through my link.

Finally, the bonus was ready but I wanted some independent assessments of it before I made it public, so I contact some marketers whose opinions I trust.

They all said: "Don't give it away..." Huh?

"Sell it!"

So Clickbank Elite was born.

Selling Clickbank Elite was a whole different proposition. I picked up a copy of Dominating Clickbank which provides great advice on how to go about selling products on Clickbank and motivating affiliates to sell on your behalf.

Armed with that knowledge, I launched Clickbank Elite in late November. It's proved popular with Clickbank affiliates and the number of sales is actually increasing. It's great knowing I've created something that useful to people.

Just this month I added a whole new module to the software that allows owners to promote popular Clickbank products through what I've called "CB Ads". You can see an example of a CB ad block here. Refresh the screen to see what happens with the ads.

One thing I'd become aware of when I was researching Clickbank was commission theft, so I've made sure that all affiliate links in the ads are cloaked.

It's funny how your start down one road and end up going down another. I'd encourage you, if you have an idea for a product or bonus to give it time and go and develop it. I hope my example and experience shows you what's possible with a little imagination, time and effort.

If you're timid about investing in Internet Marketing products and services because you fear that you'll get ripped off, you're not alone.

With a continuous saturation of product launches vying for your dollar, it's getting harder for you to know which product is the right choice.

Now, more than ever, you want to know, "Who can I trust to live up to their promises?!"

If this sounds like you, here are 3 things to look for before making your next investment:

(1) Testimonies

How many times have you purchased a product because you read a compelling testimony from a customer on a sales page?

I'm willing to bet that this one factor alone has been the deciding factor that led you to the order button many times over.

Why?

Because it's unbiased. There is no other motive for them to leave their feedback and opinion of the product other than to express their appreciation for the product's value.

That's priceless.

If a customer / user of a product says it lives up it's expectations, then it's a powerful indicator that the product can be trusted to live up to it's promises.

(2) Trusted Sources You Know

Rely on recommendations from trusted sources. Perhaps you've been on Marketer X's newsletter list for a long time and trust his or her recommendations based on their previous history.

While everyone can 'miss the boat' on rare occasions, you may have found that someone you know and trust usually gets it right. Go with that.

(3) Reviews

These are the most powerful of all.

But be careful. There are alot of so-called reviews posted on blogs and web sites from marketers who pretend to you give you their honest opinion.

But are they really unbiased? Is there an ulterior motive behind the review?

The motive for a marketer to write reviews should be one of two things:

A. To alert you that a particular product or service may not live up to it's advertised promises and thus may not be for you and your goals.

B. To let you know about promising resources that have proven to save you time and/or dollars in achieving your online goals. "Proven" being the key. And being proven by the one recommending the resource is a huge plus.

However, I've noticed a disturbing pattern in most of these reviews.

I've found it very rare to read a review online where any level of critical or negative feedback is given.

Seems that alot of marketers have a very uncanny lucky-streak, that most of us don't possess, that have allowed them to only purchase and use flawless products.

This points to an ulterior motive. And is usually identified as an affiliate link!

Frankly it's hard to trust a review 100% when it's flanked by various Ads and/or an affiliate link.

With that said, let me say that there's nothing wrong with honest marketers, who have your best interests at heart, monetizing real reviews, or other useful content posted on their sites.

It's a legitimate way to provide a valuable service for subscribers and customers while also paying the bills.

But, as a consumer, when given the choice of reading a review that is attached to an affiliate link or Ad, and one that is strictly for content only, which would you choose?

This brings us back to.. who can you really trust?

Before you invest in your next Internet marketing product or service, look for unbiased reviews from real customers, and you can put away your fears.

An extremely effective, low cost and low risk way of making money from your blog is to promote other people's products as an affiliate. By merely linking to the merchant's website with a special link provided by them, you can make commissions over and over again as your blog grows in traffic and popularity.

Although you can promote both physical and digital products, I prefer the latter as they typically pay more commissions and are easier to sell. Here are a few ways that I have personally used to make $500 - $2,000 in sales of affiliate products every month from my blog:

1) Interview The Product Owner

Who better to answer questions and clarify doubts on a certain product than the owner himself? By arranging for an interview with the owner or a representative, you get to be the middle-man and ask the most important question on behalf of your blog readers.

You can conduct interview easily using Skype and a recording software that integrates with it. Once recorded, you need to do some minor editing using Audacity, a free audio editing software. If you're using Wordpress as your blog platform, you can easily install some podcasting plugins and get the whole thing up easily.

The key to selling affiliate products using podcast interviews is to ask the right questions. It works much better if you've already bought and used the product, so you're familiar with how it works and any limitations it has.

During the interview itself, make sure you mention your affiliate link. Also write a short description of the podcast on your blog post and put your affiliate link there.

2) Write a Complete Product Review

This is not something new, but it's rarely done by most of the new affiliate marketers I've come across promoting my own products and other people's products that I happen to be promoting as well.

A product review is not a sales pitch, so avoid making it sound like you're totally in love with the product. If it's really that good, maintain your enthusiasm but do let your readers know on it's limitations as well.

To increase the clicks on your affiliate links, include screenshots of the product (if it's a software) to let people get an insider's view of how it works and the results that can expect from it.

If it's an e-book or information product, let others know the results you've observed and recorded from using the techniques or secrets mentioned. Everyone loves something that works, but most people will wait to see if it works for others before deciding to buy it.

3) Presell With a "How To" Article

A "How To" article teaches people how to solve a specific problem or achieve a specific result. In your article, start with the problem or desired outcome, and give specific step and action that need to be taken to solve it.

Somewhere towards the end of the article, mention about how a specific software can help your readers automate or skip some of the steps mentioned in your article. Once people have discovered the solution, they still may not want to do it all by themselves. If the software you're talking about helps them do it faster or easier, they will definitely consider buying it.

Your goal is to presell the benefit of using the software, and lead them to the affiliate product page. Don't make your article a sales pitch or this method will not work as well. People want to buy, but they don't want to be "sold".

Try to work on a Wordpress platform as your blogging tool, as it allows you much more control and flexibility in promoting affiliate products, especially when your "catalog" of affiliate products grows significantly.

Using these three strategies alone, you can make a significant income promoting affiliate products. Focus on these and affiliate marketing from your blog becomes so easy you won't believe the results.

Every website owner/operator is familiar with affiliate programs, we all belong to one or more, or have at one time, and display banners and buttons on our websites offering anything from a credit card to viagra, Which is completely fine for attracting perspective buyers to products that your affiliate sponsors offer. There's no crime in earning a little revenue to support your website and your hard work designing, developing and supporting it.

But if you're like me at all, you have a few domain names sitting around doing nothing too. It occurred to me that having the domain names listed for sale has generated little or no revenue, but every year I renew them because I think that they are good domain names and have marketing potential if put into the right hands.

So I decided to do a little research and find out what affiliate programs were out there that offered more than buttons and banners, and I found that there are a number of affiliate companies that offer RSS feeds and Data Feeds and even some offer complete "Turn-key" websites already built for you, download an asp or php version of the Turn-Key site to put on your own server and you're good to go. Point your domain name to it, and you're offering a service or product that people have a use for, just go about your normal marketing practices for the site(s).

So I looked at what domain names I owned and wasn't using, thought about what types of affiliate programs they would lend themselves to, which in my case was easy, and I did some research. I had 3 domain names reserved and no websites for them, http://SongOasis.com, http://Gear-Junkie.net and http://ArtistMatch.com. They were at one time active websites but hadn't been in service for quite some time, so considering they were domains pertaining mostly to music or media, I started my search there. I discovered that there were more than a few music based affiliate programs available which required an investment in time doing a little digging through.

I narrowed my search to those affiliate programs offering "Data Feeds". These are feeds that come in the form of XML or RSS feeds, as well as Text or CSV files that the affiliate would make available to you to download and use how you see fit, with some restrictions of course. Researching those affiliate programs I found that these feeds would provide all of the information, or at least much of it to the same extent as the affiliate website themselves. Which to me meant that I could build a dynamic website offering some great things in a way the I controlled without having to maintain an inventory or process payments or handle returns and deal with any billing issues should they arrise.

So... I decided for my http://Gear-Junkie.net domain to go with musical instrument sales through http://Zzounds.com, and offer over 4000 musical instruments online. Being a musician myself, this sounded appealing to me. For http://SongOasis.com I went with a great program from Rhapsody which offers real time feeds in xml format so my site is updated everyday with the latest artist and music releases everyday with no additional work on my part after building the site. And Finally for http://ArtistMatch.com I went with an affiliate program by http://CDUniverse.com. This program provided Data Feeds for over 40,000 items where you can shop online for music CDs, movies and games.

I've also cross referenced each of the sites with my own banners promoting the other sites from within my sites so that visibility to all of the affiliate programs is blended throughout the 3 websites which is helpful in generating sales if not traffic. So if you are sitting on a few domain names and would like to put them to work for you, try researching some of the affiliate programs out there that offer these type of data feeds and see if you can use them to your advantage as well.

Here We Go - 5 Steps To Make $500.00 to $1000.00 A Day:

1. So many people are trying to make money off of the internet. So why is ever one not doing it. Its simple. They don't know what to do and don't know what to promote.

Here we go. Join an affiliate program that has products that convert well and pay you well when you make a sale.

Oops, what is an affiliate program? An affiliate program is an advertising program offering a monetary incentive for webmasters to drive traffic to the advertiser's website. Basically, you join an affiliate program for free, see if they have any products you'll like to promote and that's about it.

2. Here is the key, the products have to be high priced items and you the promoter of this high priced item need to get paid at least 40% to 50% of the sale that you make. Damn, 40% to 50% is high I know. Who will pay me 50% of the sale I made? Believe it or not there are a few reputable affiliate programs out their that will pay you up to 50% for a sale you made for them.

The problem is too many people join these affiliate programs with low paying products, where the affiliate program owners are only willing to pay you no more than 10% of the sale you made for them. In some cases this is complete GARBAGE!

Why I say it's GARBAGE?

Scenario 1 (Small Paying Affiliate): You sell a product for $100.00 and the affiliate programs owners are only willing to pay you $10.00 for the sale. YES, THIS IS GARBAGE!

Scenario 2 (High Paying Affiliate): You sell a product for $100.00 and the affiliate program owners are willing to pay you anywhere from $40.00 to $50.00 for the sale. YES, THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!

Now at the same time that 10% that the small paying affiliate is willing to pay you does not look bad if you make a lot of sales. So if you can do 5 to 10 sales a day you'll make $50.00 to $100.00 a day on that 10% of the $100.00 sale you have made. Not bad!

What happens though if you do the same for the high paying affiliate. That's right, you know it BIG MONEY! So you do 5 to 10 sales a day you'll make $250.00 to $500.00 a day on that 50% of the $100.00 sale you have made. YES BIG MONEY!

3. Where in the hell do I advertise to make this type of money? Many people use Google Adwords, Yahoo Search, MSN Adcenter, Adbrite, Adengage, Etology and more.

The problem is these places to advertise your product cost a lot to get your paid ad seen on the first page. The keywords that you choose to bid on cost so damn much. This is where many people go wrong when they advertise many products or services. They choose competitive keywords that cost them around $3.00 to $4.00 per click. This is too much!

The goal when advertising with Google Adwords or Yahoo Search is to find very targeted keywords with low competition. If possible try to pay around .10 cents to .20 cents a click for your keyword. Now, you're looking at a good return on your investment.

Scenario 1 (High Cost Per Click Keyword With Small Paying Affiliate): You're promoting a weight loss product and you choose to bid on the keywords " weight loss" Not good! Not targeted traffic (your visitors are not buyers their just browsing. You may get one sale)! Yeah, you'll get a lot of traffic, but you are paying lets say around $4.00 per click to get in the TOP position at Google Adwords or Yahoo Search first page. Lets say out of 50 people who clicked on your ad you made one sale. A 1/50 conversion.ratio and you know what, those 50 people cost you $200.00 ($4.00 per click x 50 people). Gets what, that small paying affiliate is only going to pay you $10.00 for selling their $100.00 weight loss product.

GARBAGE! You spent $200.00 to make a $10.00 sale. Not acceptable! You do the math.

Scenario 2 (Low Cost Per Click Keyword With High Paying Affiliate): You're promoting a weight loss product and you choose to bid on the keywords "summertime lose weight in three days" Very good! Good Targetted Keywords. Yes it's true that you will not get a lot of traffic, but you'll get VERY TARGETTED TRAFFIC (your small amount of visitors are buyers). Yeah, you'll get very little traffic, but you are paying lets say around $.20 per click to get in the TOP position at Google Adwords or Yahoo Search. Lets say out of 10 people who clicked on your ad you made one sale. A 1/10 conversion.ratio and you know what, those 10 people cost you only $2.00 (.20 per click x 10 people). Gets what, that high paying affiliate is going to pay you $50.00 for selling their $100.00 weight loss product.

BIG MONEY! You spent a total of $2.00 to make a $50.00 sale. Beautiful! Remember, you're not getting a lot of traffic, but the conversions are higher.

These are two different examples, so play around with the scenarios and you do the math. Sorry if I confuse anyone.

Also, you can do Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with the hopes of having your website displayed on the first page of Google or Yahoo. It's great free traffic if you know what you're doing.

4. Enough, I want to make $500.00 to $1000.00 a day! Ok very simple. Promote a high priced, great converting product and get with an affiliate program that's going to pay at least 40% to 50% of the sale.

Please understand that you're going to lose money in the beginning because you have to figure out which product sells best and on which platform its sells best on. Once you know this, start promoting at full speed and make all that money. REPEAT, REPEAT & REPEAT what you're doing on other platforms and in other genres if possible.

The hard part for many people is trying to figure out what works with Google Adwords, Yahoo Search, Adbrite or which ever platform you choose to advertise on.

You'll be surprised at what people are willing to buy!

TEST, TEST & TEST. TEST is your friend.

5. Lets quickly sum things up. Get with a high paying affiliate program that has high priced products for you to promote. Make sure you get with an affiliate program that at leasts pays you 40% to 50% of the sale you made for them. Figure out where to promote and which product sells best on which platform. Again, you have to TEST, TEST & TEST. Once you know what works look to make hundreds to thousands of dollars each day.

It maybe tough for you in the beginning, but don't ever give up. Remember, this is NOT A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME.
